Past Pupil and Bestselling Author Louise O'Neill Pays a Visit

Our Fifth Year and Second Year students were in for a treat yesterday, in the form of a visit from bestselling author, and Sacred Heart Secondary School alumna, Louise O’Neill. Louise spoke candidly to the girls about her own experiences growing up as a teenage girl in Clonakilty.

She openly shared with us the challenges that she worked so hard to overcome, as well as the life lessons that she takes with her each day. As someone who has worked in the fashion world, Louise gave our students insights into the danger of becoming overly preoccupied with outside appearances, and neglecting to value the important qualities that come from within. She recalled the importance of fresh starts, and how even when one is “standing in the rubble“ of one’s former life, it is possible to rebuild and create a life that makes you the happiest that you can be.

Students got the opportunity to ask a range of questions, with subject matter ranging from the secrets of the fashion industry, to the inner workings of the world of publishing. Louise left students to consider the wise words of her father, who told Louise that if she wished to pursue a “bigger life“, she would have to take bigger risks.

Thank you so much to Louise, for spending time advising and inspiring our students!
