Good win for senior hockey team.
SENIOR B HOCKEY SUCCESS
Mr Cronin’s Senior B hockey team took on an excellent St Angela’s team in Clonakilty on Thursday 23rd Jan at 1pm. The game started at a blistering pace with St Angela’s enjoying the majority of possession but at the end of the first quarter the score remained 0-0. The Clon girls upped their game in the second quarter and got to grips with a strong St Angela’s team. The midfield quartet of Aoife Moloney, Meabh O’Donovan, Hannah Sexton and Anna Flynn proving more than a match for their opposition. With the help of some outstanding goalkeeping by CJ McDonagh and coupled with some excellent attacking play from Annie Condon and Ciara Deasy, Sacred Heart were unlucky not to be ahead by the break, the half time score 0-0. The Sacred Heart girls were well able to match St Angela’s in the third quarter thanks to some excellent defending from Leah McAree, Eimear Walsh, Sarah Connolly and Alice Sexton and going into the final quarter the score was evenly balanced at 0-0. The team was strengthened further with the introduction of Sarah Lowney, Clodagh Murphy, Chloe Allman and Katelyn Dineen. With some heroic goalkeeping from CJ McDonagh, where she somehow deflected shot after shot around the post and with the clock ticking toward the final whistle, Sacred Heart gave one last push and it was Ciara Deasy that popped up to stroke the ball into the St Angela’s goal to record a hard-fought win. This follows another excellent victory against Mount Mercy back in Nov. Well done to all the squad.
