SACRED HEART MARK THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE RIGHT TO VOTE FOR IRISH WOMEN

Prior to the official opening of the 2018 Trade Fair on Friday December 14th, students in Sacred Heart were reminded of the historical significance of the date. This is the transcript of the speech delivered by Transition year students Joya Hatchett.

ON THIS DAY 100 YEARS AGO, IRISH WOMEN GOT THE VOTE

It is 100 years ago today, Dec 14th 2018, since Irish women first exercised their right to vote and stood for national election. To mark this very significant centenary it is important that we the Transition Year class of 2018 honour the contribution women have made to Irish politics, to the world of business and  to Irish society in general. Today we remember and honour all women who have made a difference

Who have become entrepreneurs — in charge of their own economic future

Who have become politicians – protecting the importance of democracy in our world

Who have become mothers , through love and care, holding future generations in the palm of their hands

Today as the trade Fair of 2018 is officially opened this is my message to all students in Sacred Heart:

The future is about women.

The future is about us .

It is our future where, a future where we can lead the way for a better world

where we  can live fulfilling lives, pursuing our  individual dreams .

Together  let us  walk forward in unity….
