New Rooms at Sacred Heart Opened!
The Perfect Prefab
Summer of 2018 saw a significant milestone in the history of Sacred Heart Secondary as the old prefab buildings, infamous for many generations, were demolished and rebuilt. This undoubtedly will enhance the lives of fifth and sixth year students by creating a warmer, cleaner and generally more pleasant work environment. “A massive improvement indeed, and a nice welcome back present” said Meabhdh Coomey, sixth year student rep.
Originally built in 1991 the old prefabs had remained unchanged up until August this summer when the ‘Emergency Works’ scheme funded by the Department of Education commenced. The project, costing a total of €85,000, was undertaken with an eco-friendly approach being the highest priority. Efforts to conserve energy can now be seen in new low energy lightbulbs and heating system in place, double glazed PVC windows as well as the heavily insulated walls and ceilings. In addition to the new floors, roofs and white outside cladding everything has been freshly painted, transforming the sixth year prefabs into “the best classrooms in the school” according to the Deputy Principal Mr Walsh.
Sixth year representatives Meabhdh Coomey, Tommi Shanley and Sinead Mears were invited to the official opening of the new prefabs on Friday afternoon. All three expressed their delight and gratitude. Speaking for both the student body and staff they said… “We adore our new home… the prefabs are par excellence!”
